ICAMcsr Facilitators: Online Behavior and Wellbeing, Safe and Secure, Peer-Led

Description

The Network for the Inclusion of Children Affected by Migration (ICAMnet) supports the social-emotional learning and well-being of children affected by migration, whether they are asylum seekers, refugees, economic migrants, or children left behind by parents working in other countries. It helps schools develop a philosophy of coexistence so that all children are included and have full access to the education to which they are entitled. (International laws protecting children’s rights define children as any person under the age of 18, and we use that definition here.)

The course is divided into eight sessions focused on online safety, security, and responsibility. These are increasingly important topics, especially for young people, and by promoting them, you will use your own knowledge and experience to help your peers make the most of the internet’s enormous potential. You will be making a significant contribution to fostering a positive online environment.

Who is it addressed to?

This course is for anyone who wants to become an ICAM program facilitator. It is designed to build a safe and self-sustaining learning community of like-minded professionals.

What are you going to achieve with this course?

• These eight ICAMcsr sessions are one of the resources provided by ICAMnet. They focus on online safety, security, and responsibility. These are increasingly important topics, especially for young people, and by promoting them, you will be using your own knowledge and experience to help other students harness the enormous potential of the internet to their fullest potential. You will be making a significant contribution to online community.
• We hope you will also benefit from your participation in the program, learning not only about the topics you will be covering but also about yourself. You will practice and develop skills such as presenting, explaining, listening, analyzing, and responding appropriately.
• You will also have the opportunity to expand and improve the program as your experience grows. This is a program for young people, run by young people, so your feedback is welcome.
• The program does not focus on technology itself, but rather on how we use it and the impact this has on us.
• Technology is developing at an astonishingly rapid pace, and it is impossible to predict the changes you will witness throughout your life. Even those leading these developments say they don’t know what the results will be.
• However, what won’t change is the need for people to maintain positive and constructive relationships with one another. Daniel Goleman, an American psychologist, is famous for his work on emotional intelligence. He described it as ‘the ability to recognize our own feelings and those of others, to motivate ourselves, and to manage emotions well in ourselves and in our relationships.’ This program promotes the demonstration of emotional intelligence both online and in person.
• This course provides a framework and materials for you to use. You can adapt them to your context according to the needs, experiences, and understanding of the students. Like all ICAM resources, it’s designed more as a menu than a recipe.

3D design with Tinkercad

Description

With the advancement of new technologies, 3D design has become available to everyone, which is why this course has been designed to give an introduction to 3D design using free online software called TINKERCAD. It is a software that runs in a browser, which does not require a very powerful computer, just a good internet connection.

The software works with primitive figures (Cubes, cylinders, spheres, etc.) that, combined in different ways, we can achieve more elaborate figures, as we can see in the image. Its learning curve is very linear, so it is highly recommended for introduction to 3D design.

The course also introduces you to 3D printing and laser cutting/screen printing through small manuals prepared for two programs (CURA for 3D printing and LaserGRBL for screen printing/laser cutting). There are also videos available about the Creality Ender 3 v3 KE printer and the Creality Falcon 10W cutter, which are two affordable machines to get started in this world.

Who is it addressed to?

The course is aimed at anyone who wants to get into 3D design and printing, although it is recommended for ages 12 and up. Only minimal computer knowledge is needed, as the entire learning process is guided.

IoT (Internet of Things)

Description

The IoT is based on systems that monitor, adjust and collect interactions between different connected devices. One of the applications of the Internet of Things, for example, if we have a smart thermostat at home and it detects that the temperature is very low or high, it sends that information over the Internet to a server. The server processes this data and, from it, can send automatic instructions (such as turning on the air conditioning if it’s too hot) or send notifications to your phone to inform you of what’s happening and leave the decision in your hands.

Therefore, in addition to the connected objects themselves, the Internet of Things relies on sensors, Internet access, servers and data processing systems so that information can be sent and received.

The course is carefully designed to introduce us to the world of IoT from the base, through programming the control boards to configuring the web control interface that will receive and send data over the Internet.

Who is it addressed to?

The course is aimed at anyone who wants to enter the world of IoT, although it is recommended for ages 12 and up. Only minimal computer knowledge is needed, as the entire learning process is guided.

What are you going to achieve with this course?

• Learn to assemble the electronics necessary to control, using NodeMCU and ESP32 boards.
• Develop the control program for the plates mentioned in the previous point.
• Learn to program and design the web control interface through two free platforms (ThingSpeak and Adafruit IO)
• Improve computational thinking to be able to face the challenges you face in the IoT.

Inclusion of migrant students in the classroom (ICAM Program)

Description

The ICAM (Including Children Affected by Migration) program is designed to achieve lasting improvements in educational provision for 10.5 million of Europe’s most disadvantaged and needy children. These vital advances ensure access to the highest levels of education that are your right under the European Child Guarantee and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Across Europe there are large numbers of dedicated and caring school staff who dedicate their lives to helping children in need achieve their potential and overcome their disadvantages. The ICAM program is designed to help organize and nurture this group, respecting their talent, improving leadership and management, allowing them to share their special skills with others, so that everyone benefits from the coexistence they create. The course is carefully designed to employ effective and interactive coaching methods based on a step-by-step learning process, applying leadership and solution-focused thinking skills, and modeling school coexistence. Chapters are supported by detailed workshop guides with power points, suggested activities and ICAM reference manuals.

The course is aimed at teachers and educational staff who want to become facilitators of the ICAM program. The course is designed to build a safe, self-sustaining learning community of like-minded professionals.

What are you going to achieve with this course?

• A focus on personal development and learning with pre- and post-course self-assessment to help plan next steps in continuing professional development.
• Leadership Development: Focuses on the skills and understanding needed to effect school-wide change and improvement.
• A reflection on how, in practical terms, to create coexistence: research has identified 12 key areas of school organization that contribute most to developing and sustaining it. An introduction to the school review of the ICAM program and the administration of online questionnaires for students, parents, staff and school leaders.
• The review analyzes the school’s strengths and areas for improvement in the 12 key areas for creating coexistence and is carried out after the first workshop. Develop a school improvement action plan, based on success and sustained by a development cycle that begins with small, achievable steps and steadily grows as opportunity allows.
• Plan how to involve all stakeholders in developments and, more importantly, how to empower children and their parents to take the lead in initiatives, learn and support each other.
